Trees for the Future: 50,000 trees for agroforestry in France First national agroforestry competition launched by AccorHotels, Fermes d’Avenir and Pur Projet with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Forestry
September 15, 2016: This is the deadline for all French farmers and livestock breeders to submit their agroforestry project via the Blue Bees platform and attempt to win one of 34 prizes of between €5,000 and €10,000. The top three winners will also benefit from an online crowdfunding campaign on the platform.
The aim of this inaugural Trees for the Future competition is to encourage the planting of at least 50,000 trees within French agricultural crops and livestock areas. An innovative approach to agroecology, which will generate countless benefits for both nature and people.
The Trees for the Future competition is part of Plant for The Planet, a huge global reforestation program launched by AccorHotels in 2009 (4.5 million trees have already been planted in 25 countries). Plant for the Planet is based on a simple premise: any guest staying in the hotel for more than one night is invited to reuse their towel, an act that helps make savings on laundry. Half of these savings are invested in reforestation projects near hotels. In this way, Trees for the Future will be funded by half the savings made by the Group’s hotels in France.
AccorHotels reward IMHI - ESSEC Business School students
IMHI - ESSEC Business School students Kevin CAILLON, Clément GHIDINI and Romain PRADINES have this year won the top prize at the Take Off!! competition, thanks to their project “SQUARE, COOK AND SHARE”. The three young talents conceived restaurants that would lend their ovens to local amateur chefs. For a week, the impromptu chefs would not only be able to cook up their own dishes but also to talk to customers in the open-plan kitchens of AccorHotels’ restaurants.
The “SQUARE, COOK AND SHARE” project successfully rose to the competition’s challenge, which was to: “Create ideas that will revolutionize AccorHotels restaurants and make them the place to be!”. The competition ties in with the review initiated by the Group with the arrival of Amir Nahai, Chief Executive Officer – Group F&B and Procurement. The goal is to create career paths that are more rewarding for our employees and provide a truly attractive restaurant experience within AccorHotels for both current and future guests.
165 projects by 500 young people from 21 countries and 83 schools were submitted to the jury. Just five made it through to the third and final round of the competition. The final took place in Paris between the five best teams from both hospitality and business schools in France, Switzerland, Denmark and China and represented nine nationalities.
Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port
Sofitel, MGallery by Sofitel and Poiray launch“Operation Cinderella” epitomizing luxury and enchantment in Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Strasbourg.
Operation Cinderella is taking place during the month of July in Sofitel and MGallery by Sofitel hotels and Poiray points of sale in the following cities: Strasbourg, Marseille, Bordeaux and Toulouse.
Throughout July 2016, selected MGallery and Sofitel hotels in Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Strasbourg and Maison Poiray present “Operation Cinderella”, a fairy tale during which guests become princesses, spending a night in one of the city’s most beautiful buildings. The principle is that, when visiting one of the selected hotels, each guest discovers a jewel placed in a sealed envelope bearing their name.
What secret is it concealing? To solve the puzzle, guests must go to the Maison Poiray store and immerse themselves in the endlessly versatile world of the “Ma Préférence” ring. If, by magic, the jewel has a “Poiray Cut”, the lucky winner will keep the ring, with the jewel effortlessly fitting into it and being interchangeable to suit the heart’s desire. And if it is not, they will still receive a lovely surprise

Opening of the Pullman Riga Old Town: a journey between history and modernity
It was in June that the first Pullman hotel in the Baltic States opened right in the heart of the capital of Latvia. Ideally located between the romantic green park of Bastion Hill and the Presidential Palace, the Pullman Old Town perfectly captures the city’s ambiance.
As soon as you see it, the architecture of the hotel lets you travel between history and modernity. Divided into three parts – a historic building dating from 1789 at the front and two contemporary parts at the rear – this original structure is connected by an enormous glass atrium.
Inside, the equestrian art reminds guests that the spot once housed the stables of Baron Münchausen. It is now the location of the restaurant Equus. With 155 bedrooms and suites, each with a view of the atrium or neighboring park, a restaurant open throughout the day, a bar, eight conference rooms and a gym, the Pullman Riga Old Riga is the ideal location for a business meeting or a romantic weekend.
The bonus? A 19-meter indoor swimming pool on the top floor of the building, offering an unobstructed view over the canals and neighboring park.
Molitor celebrates 70 years of the bikini!
Just 70 years ago, a legend was born. On July 5, 1946, the day of the water festival, the bikini was paraded poolside for the first time at the Piscine Molitor. On July 5, 2016, Ghislaine Rayer and Patrice Gaulupeau, authors of the book “Bikini la Légende” (Editions Laffont), will be at the Bar of the Sofitel Molitor – MGallery Hotel to celebrate this date, which left its mark on the fashion world, and to unveil an exhibition of 15 photographs dating from this first appearance. The program includes: a book signing, discussions and a presentation, using mannequins, of part of their bikini collection and pieces from the time. Launch open to the public from 6-9pm, exhibition open from July 6 to August 30.

“A Winter Tale of Summer Bliss”, an exhibition combining art, fashion, design and innovation at the Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg.
From June 22 to August 31, 2016, works by contemporary artists, and fashion designs and accessories based on the theme of the new world will be on display in the lobby and in eight windows of the Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg Hotel. Outside, works by Laurent Saksik, Ada Yu and Simon De La Porte mingle with the work of stylists Damir Doma, Lutz, Noa Okawa, Hugo Matha, Eugene Riconneaus and Thomasine as well as that of the designers Phillipe Nigro, Nathan Yong, Pauline Deltour, Sebastian Bergne and Amos.
The exhibition allows guests to learn more about each work and artist via a QR code that sends the user to the exhibition’s website http://wtsb.paris/ . In the lobby, scent-filled spheres diffuse the four rare and magical fragrances of Diane Pernet’s perfumes, surrounded by spider jewelry designed by the parfumier as well as a display of Mich Dulce hats. This polyptych display is a perfect match for the spirit of the Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg which was for a long time a popular haunt of surrealists and served as the headquarters of the iconic magazine Marie-Claire. Today, Parisian elegance and clients of the fashion houses, whose shows and artistic inspiration punctuate the life of the hotel, continue to mingle there.

Opening of the new 4* Mercure Paris Alésia hotel
The Mercure Paris Alésia hotel has just been completely renovated by the designer Philippe Avanzi. The renovation project resulted in the joining of two buildings, giving the hotel an architectural unity that echoes Paris though its original and unusual décor.
Bedrooms with original frescos created by the Atelier Archange and the staircase that leads to the eight floors showcase architectural monuments from the Arc de Triomphe to the Eiffel Tower, taking in the charm of the Paris metro entrances. This hotel was completed with decidedly designer-style focus combining the use of quality materials (Carrara marble) with iconic design pieces (easy chairs: Mama de Gaetano Pesce, Piccola Papilio, Flow Slim).
The four-star, 91-room hotel is located within easy reach of the Porte d’Orléans (Metro Line 4), ideally situated in the capital, close to the Saint Germain and Montparnasse districts, just a few minutes from the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Center.
